Kim Sjøgren - Professor of violin and chamber music

Kim Sjøgren was born on the 17th of December, 1955, in Nakskov, Denmark. He has played violin since he was 3 years old. When he was only 12 years old he was accepted by The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, Denmark, and his debut-appearance was at the prime age of 17.

Three years later, he became a member of the Royal Danish Orchestra, where he consequently became concert master at the age of 22, the youngest ever in the history of the orchestra.

Kim Sjøgren has composed music for film, TV and theater.

In 1997, Kim Sjøgren founded his own "The Little Mermaid Orchestra" and they subsequently became one of Denmark's most in-demand orchestras.

In 2004, he was appointed the position of Professor of violin and chamber music at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, Denmark.

Kim Sjøgren performes frequently throughout most of the world as a classical soloist and as a stand-up entertainer

The Entertainer
Kim Sjøgren's soloshow demonstrates his virtuosity and is delivered with humor and small anecdotes. A unique show, that is suitable for any occasion.

His repetoir ranges from the big classical works to popular hits folk mucis. jazz and evergreens. In other words: Stand-up entertainment in the best Victor Borge style.

He has done shows with varios artists such as, Tommy Kenter, Thomas Mørk and Anders Anfeldt-Rønne and has also performed solo.

History and Background
Born on the 17th of December, 1955 in Nakskov, Denmark Kim Sjøgren grew up in Bryrup, Denmark. Kim’s mother noticed early on her son’s musical talent.

At the age of 2, Kim Sjøgren began playing harmonica, but soon switched to a 1/4 violin. Kim’s first appearance on stage with his violin was at the age of 3.

After being taught by his mother and by professional violinists, Kim Sjøgren was accepted as an exception by the minister of culture, Bodil Koch, at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, Denmark at the age of 12. In the 8th grade, Kim had the choice between gradeschool and fulltime studying at the Music Academy. Kim chose to give the violin a chance. His début concert was at the age of 17. Three years later, after his studies abroad, he became member of the Royal Danish Orchestra, where he was appointed the position of concert master at the age of 22, the youngest in the history of the orchestra.

In 2005, Kim Sjøgren was appoinyed the position of Professor of violin and chamber music at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.

Studies Abroad

Has studied in Tjekkoslovakia with Prof. Maria Hlounova and Prof. Pegelsky, in Romania with Stefan Gheorghiu as well as with Joseph Silverstein in the USA thanks to a recommandation from Isaac Stern.

Scholarships and Artist Prize

Kim Sjøgren has received various prizes throughout the years, such as, the Jacob Gades grant, Peder Møllers music prize, the Music Reviewers artist prize, etc.
