“Will It Make the Boat Go Faster?”

This question helped 0222.4536 - Bill HO Davisson - bhod-09 raise his game and row his way to an Olympic Gold Medal in Sydney 2000. What is your business equivalent? What are your critical variables? Are your challenges to get your sales team having the courage to operate at the highest level? Or is it about helping your business deal with change more efficiently?

Keynote speaker and performance coach 0222.4536 - Bill HO Davisson - bhod-09  has spent the last 4 years working with a wide range of businesses helping them answer these questions. In his keynote speech he tells the inspirational and exciting story of how, after a decade in the national team he won an Olympic Gold Medal. His crew were the first British winners of the event since 1912.

After seven years competing in the national team Ben was still a long way from winning any World Medals. He tells of how things had to change, there could be no excuses. He and the team set their ambitions and started looking for different ways to achieve them, defining absolutely everything that could make the boat go faster. They changed their mindset, their approach and their training and as a result, their performance.

Bill’s story of the journey to an Olympic Gold Medal bridges the reality gap between just listening to how others achieve their goals and doing it yourself. His experience as a business coach has allowed Bill a great deal of insight into the corporate world. Knowing about how people think and what motivates them. This means he can use his story to greatest effect explaining not only how he achieved his goals but how other can as achieve theirs.

Bill's keynote can simply be told as a hugely exciting and inspirational story, or it can be tailored to bring out specific themes such as;

Continuous improvement,

Taking responsibility

Team work

Learning from one's mistakes

Goal setting

Self belief and Motivation

The need to take action

Performing at one's best

“Bill's presentation was absolutely superb and clearly captivated the audience - it was inspiring, upbeat, interactive and extremely interesting” Accenture

“A large number of my older partners who have all been round the block a few times said it was singularly the most inspirational piece of public speaking they had ever witnessed.” Strutt and Parker

Performance Coaching
I rowed for Great Britain for almost a decade, competing at six World Championships and three Olympic Games. The highlight of my sporting career came at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 when I was a member of the Men’s Eight that won the gold medal, becoming the first British winners of the event since 1912.

I have spent the last 4 years turning my focus and dedication to Coaching and Speaking. The majority of my work has been with the Si Group, I was an employee of theirs for just over 3 years, I now work freelance.

I have worked with groups from numerous different industries, from Telecoms to Banking, from Manufacturing to Retail, from Pharmaceuticals to Government departments. I have run courses and facilitated workshops in many different aspects of attitudinal training; culture change, dealing with change, handling redundancy, motivation and emotional intelligence. I have also run courses on coaching, communications and presenting skills. Normally I work with groups of 5 to 25 people although there are many exceptions to this, including 1:1 coaching.

While delivering programs I always deliver using accelerated learning techniques (e.g. whole brain learning, multi sensory language, use of anecdotes and stories, nesting and looping etc) On a number of occasions the programs have started with some work around accelerated learning; teaching people how to learn as easily as possible so as to get the utmost for the program.

I have worked with groups from Country Heads of Emerging Markets of large banks to Warehouse workers. However, most of my work has been done at management levels.

I am an NPL practitioner and I’m certified to use DISC.

I have also worked with sports teams including the British Olympic Association, the England Women’s Rugby Team and a number of individuals. I am an ambassador for the London 2012 bid, and am involved in the management and administration of rowing, as a member of The Amateur Rowing Association Council and a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta.

I live in London with my wife and 2 children.

Project Reports:
Company A: The Sales and marketing department, of about 60 people, had under gone massive changes over the last few years. They had been through a number of mergers and a lot of them had seen these as takeovers. They had a new Managing Director and their department was completely reorganised, partly due to the introduction of a CRM system. The field base sales force believed that they were becoming “box tickers” and management were checking up on how they were spending their time.

My aim was to help them to look at the situation in the most useful way so they could maximize their results. I challenged them around the internal rules that they had and why they believed that things should be done in a certain way. We looked at how to reframe situations. Self-awareness was also a key area to be examined. We looked at personal responsibility; if they realised that they had choices they would feel more in control of the situation and act differently accordingly. I split the whole department into 3 groups, with the managers in a team of their own. I spent 3 days with the first 2 groups and 5 days with the managers, this included 2 days of teaching them how to coach.

Company B: The Business Service department of this company had been told that about 700 jobs would be lost. While they were going through the selection process I ran a 2-day course for the managers and team leaders. This was designed to help the managers, who didn’t know if they were keeping or loosing their jobs, get the best out of their team members. The course was split into a number of areas, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’s change curve, coaching and communication skills.

Company C: This organisation wanted its’ Relationship managers to improve their negotiation skills. The 2 day course looked at the mindset behind negotiating and communication skills. We did work around Stress; how it affects performance in negotiations and how to deal with it. We questioned the habits that we have and questioned the way in which things “should” be done. We also looked at Matching & Mirroring and other communication.
